I know what it's like to be dealing with pain and injuries that prevent you from doing what you love. As a 19-year-old athlete, I experienced an immense amount of joint issues/injuries that ultimately forced me to completely stop working out because I was in so much pain. The majority of the pain I was having was in my hips and shoulders, and unfortunately I ended up getting surgery on one of my hips when I was only 21. Had I known prior to then what I know now, I truly believe that surgery wouldn’t have been necessary. Regardless, that didn’t fix my problems, in fact surgery in those scenarios rarely does. I had to take a step back and figure out what the real problem was. I couldn't stretch my problems away, chiropractors couldn't help me, and even physical therapists didn't have the answers. So I took a deep dive into understanding proper movement and alignment of the joints and the common musculoskeletal dysfunctions we experience. This is how I learned why I wasn't seeing results. I wasn't looking at the body as a whole. Generally, the exact joint you experience pain in isn’t what is causing the problem. Our body is a complex system and everything interconnects which is why if for example you have slight dysfunction in one of your feet, you can end up with major hip and back problems. You can't treat one joint without looking at the body as a whole. I am still on the journey of learning and fixing the dysfunction in my body, as I probably will be for the rest of my life. I believe this is a lifelong journey for most people. I love to educate my clients and give helpful resources. I am very passionate about seeing you overcome your pain and be able to do what you love.
I truly believe that trying to be the healthiest person you can be is one of the most empowering things you can do as a human. If you don’t have good health, your quality of life will generally be drastically reduced. Just think about the difference between someone who isn’t restricted by their body vs someone who is suffering from multiple joint issues; one has endless potential while the other one struggles to do the basic necessities. Not to mention how draining health issues are from a financial standpoint. And yes, prioritizing your health can also be expensive but it certainly makes much more sense to be on the proactive side of things rather than just trying to put out fires. I guarantee you the former is far less expensive than the latter. I could go on and on about all the reasons why you should prioritize your health but I think you get the idea. It is a lifelong journey, should you choose to fulfill your greatest potential.
I will never claim that massage will fix all your problems. To me, it is just one of the many tools in the toolbelt. I believe that massage can be highly beneficial to everyone and should be a part of your self care routine. Whether that is once a week or a few times a year, your body will certainly thank you. I think it is also important to note though, don’t expect to have all your issues go away in one session. For most people, the issues in their body are the result of years and years of abuse. Everyone is different, some people may need far more massages than others depending on their genetics, nutrition, quality of sleep, movement patterns/posture etc. Regardless, I believe everyone should have massage in their routine at some level of frequency.
I enjoy a very active lifestyle; In the summers I try to enjoy the sunshine as much as I can, going rollerblading, playing volleyball, mountain biking, etc. In the wintertime my main outdoor activity is snowboarding/skiing. I'm in the gym working on my strength, mobility and endurance on a weekly basis, as well as lots of different recovery tactics such as infrared sauna, cold showers, soft tissue work, and always prioritizing good nutrition. I consider myself a lifelong learner, always reading books and listening to podcasts to learn how to be the best version of myself and help others around me do the same.
